Our Structure
The Board of Directors The OSDJ Board of Directors consist of no fewer than 15 persons and no greater than 35 persons. They are charged with the responsibility defining the strategic goals of the organization and to hold the leadership accountable to its objectives. The Board of Directors meet twice per year to evaluate and approve the business of the organization. Each member of the Board of Directors participates in at least one of the Advisory or Administrative committees. The Advisory committees consist of members of the Board of Directors and their extended professional network. The Executive Committee The Executive Committee performs the duties of the Board of Directors in the absence of the full Board. Decisions made by the Executive Committee have to be ratified at the next Board of Directors meeting where there is a quorum. The Executive Committee also serves as the human resource team for the organization.
The Executive Board The Executive Board consist of the Executive Offices (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer), Program Directors and Administrative Committee Chairs. Currently Administrative Committees are; Hospitality committee, Fundraising Committee, Scholarship Committee. The Medical Advisory Committee The Medical Advisory committee consist of Members of the Board of Directors and representatives from institutions and agencies that are supportive of our healthcare initiative. This committee is responsible for setting the goals and objectives of the Advancements in Medicine conference and for recommending the adoption of policies that support opportunities for engaging overseas medical and healthcare professionals interested in helping to improve the healthcare delivery system in Jamaica. The Youth Council The Youth Council consist of Board Members and representatives from institutions and agencies that are supportive our youth initiative. This committee is responsible for developing and implementing strategies for engaging the young people in Jamaica and other parts of the world for events and activities leading to them becoming productive and effective global citizens. Our Programs
Youth on Fire for Jesus Ministry
The Youth on Fire for Jesus Ministry is the evangelism and discipleship arm of OSDJ. It is an international/interdenominational program consist of volunteers responsible to planning events and activities aimed at mentoring young people. Coupled with the Youth Council this program takes a holistic approach to youth development. It involves scholarship assistance for college and university, skills training and community engagement through sport, music and drama. Medical and Dental Outreach Program The Medical and dental outreach program, creating network among medical, healthcare and dental professionals and institutions for the purpose of helping to improve the healthcare delivery system in Jamaica. This is will be achieved through professional development, Institutional relationships and partnerships, patient care assistance and infrastructure development initiatives.
The Advancements in Medicine Conference, is our first response in the development of professional relationships between local Jamaicans and oversea medical and healthcare professionals.
Beginning in 2009 OSDJ will be assisting with patient care in Jamaica though short-tem medical missions. The first team will be led by Dr. Mark Gormley of Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, St. Paul, Minnesota. Jamaica Mi' Care
The Jamaica Mi' Care (Jamaica I Care) program provides individuals, Church, Para-Church organizations and civic groups short-term missions opportunities to Jamaica to aid in individual and community development across rural Jamaica. These opportunities include skills training, building construction, community base workshops and projects. Projects utilize academia, skilled and unskilled volunteers.
